Vision
OUTBORDER’s mission is to develop Riga into a significant centre for audiovisual art, encompassing the electronic music movement and the development of performative arts in the Baltics. We are building a platform and a regular programme of events that bring together electronic, experimental and ambient music with contemporary visual and performative art. At the same time, we actively collaborate with artists, collectives and organisations from different countries, creating an international creative network and fostering the exchange of experience.
At our events, electronic sound is approached as a fully-fledged art form, creating a unified audiovisual experience where sound artists, DJs, performance makers and VJs come together. We work with local and international partners to expand creative boundaries and ensure a diverse programme. We also support both established and emerging artists, offering opportunities to present original works, visualisations and projection-based projects.
An important part of our work is creating an inclusive and safe environment where everyone can express themselves freely, without discrimination. In addition to night culture events, we also organise educational activities — lectures, discussions, listening sessions and workshops — that deepen understanding of electronic music and its interaction with art and technology.
We promote collaboration with artists, organisations and initiatives across Europe and elsewhere in the world, strengthening the development of the field in Latvia and the Baltics. Our goal is to bring the community together, increase the visibility of this culture, and inspire young people to create, collaborate and use electronic music as a tool for self-expression and social responsibility.
Goals
To create a safe, inclusive and creative environment that supports the development of electronic music and audiovisual art in Latvia, engaging young people, wider society and professional artists in a shared creative process.
The organisation develops a creative community where artists with different levels of experience collaborate, while also offering young people opportunities to learn electronic music production and actively participate in cultural processes as co-creators.
It encourages critical thinking about contemporary culture and the creative industries, and advocates for an inclusive and equal environment free from stereotypes.
OUTBORDER also develops international cooperation by working with partners from different countries and organisations, and contributes to a sustainable, socially responsible cultural environment grounded in education, equality and diversity.
